Enhancing mechanical properties of twin-roll cast Al–Mg–Si–Fe alloys by regulating Fe-bearing phases and macro-segregation

The existence of coarse Fe-bearing phases and macro-segregation under the twin-roll casting (TRC) condition has always been a restrictive factor for preparation high-performance Al alloys. In this work, effect Mn contents on formation phases, behavior mechanical properties TRC Al-0.5Mg-0.7Si-0.1Fe-xMn (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3 0.5 wt.%) alloys have investigated. region in as-cast 0Mn alloy is found to contain secondary consisting Al, Fe, Mg Si. 0.1Mn 0.3Mn alloys, alleviated due transformation ?-AlFeMgSi phase ?-Al(FeMn)Si phase, as result inhibited peritectic reaction form by addition Mn. However, with further increasing amount Mn, intermetallic compounds at center tend 0.5Mn alloy, which aggravates again. exhibits better combination yield strength (287 MPa) elongation (18.9%) than that (274 MPa, 15.9%) artificial aging condition. higher mainly fine particles make strong contribution dispersion strengthening. This work provides reference weakening via regulating great importance developing AA6xxx series high performance.
